He was born Jan 25, 1842 in Humphrey, Cattaraugus Co, New York and died Jun 09, 1926 in Olean, Cattaraugus Co, New York. "Melvin was Melbourn's twin. He was always frail and couldn't serve in the army so he hired a substitute. He never knew whether the man survived or not. I haven't been able to find Eliza's maiden name" Phyllis
