Mary Wilcox was born Apr 22, 1837 in Hinsdale, Cattaraugus Co, New York and died Aug 23, 1915 in Humphrey, Cattaraugus Co, New York. The daughter of Seymour Wilcox and Sally C Sargent, Mary married John Hinman.

"Their wedding, I've just learned, took place as a prank at a spelling bee back in 1858. Her brother Hiram and his sister Dorleska, were married by then and persuaded them to go through a "mock wedding" but the man who presided was a Justice of the Peace and he declared the marriage real.
