We learn from the Steuben Courier that on Saturday evening last, Benj. Emerson Jr., of Bath, missed his wallet containing about $135. He made immediate inquiries, and ascertained that a colored man named Bob Stewart was seen to pick up a wallet on the sidewalk in front of Hunter's store about dusk. He was accompanied by another person not known. Bob and a Scotchman named Ed Clinton, were arrested the same evening, examined and committed to jail. On Monday, Bob confessed that he and Clinton had divided the money, and upon giving up his portion, was released from jail. Clinton denies having any knowledge of the matter, and still remains in prison.
