When Edward Thorne was 12 or 13 years old, he ran away from England and stole away on a ship, like this. I'm not sure if it was a picture of the exact ship, but he saved it and put in the family bible. He told Thorneta that the captain of this ship, was a friend of his father's and when he discovered Edward on the ship, he told him he was going to give him something to remember...how he had hurt his parents, by leaving the way he did. Census records show that he immigrated 1872. He was naturalized, but I don't know when or where. The captain gave him the worst licking that he ever had and said he would never forget it. As far we know, he never went back to England, nor heard anything from his parents again.
