This photo is believed to be of James Edward Fitzgerald. His 3rd g-granddaughter, Jeannine Byard, descends from James through his son, Charles Franklin Fitzgerald.
She writes... "This photo is not labled on the back because it is a tin type. However, my Mom and I both think it is probably James Edwards Fitzgerald. If you compare this photo with the one I am sending with Mary, Charles and girls, you will see how much Charles and this man look alike. (compare features) Since it is a tin type we know it is old and it was in a box with all of the pictures of Helen Fitzgerald's family. She had pictures of her mother's Mom and Dad and the picture of Mary and this one. That makes me think it is James. However, I think we need to put a question mark on that one unless someone else can verify."

Several cousins agree that this man, is a match with the man above, believed to be James Edward Fitzgerald. It was in the possession of his 2nd g-granddaughter, through his daughter, Eliza Ann (Fitzgerald) Hatch, the sister to Charles Franklin Fitzgerald.
The original is a 2 1/2" x 3 1/2" old tintype, with squared corners, probably pre-Civil War, likely from the late 1850's. Because it was inherited by Eliza Ann (Fitzgerald) Hatch's great granddaughter, and because of the ages of the subjects, it is my belief that the two women with James, are his only living daughters, Mary Jane (Fitzgerald) Bell, on the left, and Eliza Ann (Fitzgerald) Hatch. Compare the known image of Mary Jane, with the woman on the left, above. Any ideas what she might be holding in her lap?
